Using XP Pro SP2 w 2GB RAM on AMD 3500+ and have noticed that at times Winpatrol is using 90%+ of the CPU causing the computer to become slow or at times even unresponsive. I just installed 2008 version but have not had time to see if it does the same thing and was wondering if this is a known problem.
I am guessing that you are using the free version of WinPatrol and you are seeing the activity when Scotty is patrolling; i.e., monitoring for any changes to startup pages, changes to the hosts file, IE Helpers, new Services, etc. Unlike WinPatrol Plus which is real-time monitoring, with the free version, the user determines the interval between times when Scotty goes on patrol. Perhaps you have too short an interval set.
Hmmm, that is strange then. I've never had problems with WinPatrol using too many CPU cycles -- even back with the early versions on Win95.
Did you uninstall WinPatrol 2007 before installing WinPatrol 2008? (I didn't but haven't had any problems.)
My first suggestion is if you notice it happening with WinPatrol 2008 to make sure to note your Plus code, uninstall WinPatrol, delete the WinPatrol folder, shutdown/restart and reinstall.
Please let us know if it does happen with WinPatrol 2008.
