I have just installed SP3 and I have noticed that Scotty is changing position on the task bar.

It was fine before under SP2.

Any solution to keep Scotty static?

Ian

Hi, Ian. After 8 years of staying static on the Windows task bar, I think Scotty has earned the right to run around. Smile

Seriously, I expect you are referring to Windows XP SP3. It may be necessary to obtain some feedback from others as they install SP3. In the meantime, I'll alert BillP to your experience.

Hey Ian,

Actually, that shouldn't be anything new.

We used to have a problem report that Windows would drop Scotty off the taskbar. Apparently because WinPatrol isn't doing enough and is just waiting for messages from Windows, XP decided Scotty didn't exist and the icon disappeared from the taskbar.
To resolve this problem WinPatrol will every so often reinitialize the taskbar icon just to make sure it's still there.
The result may be that Scotty moves to a new position.

It shouldn't be different with SP3 but you never know! Cool

I'll pay attention to any other reports of this kind.

Thanks!
Bill

FWIW, with my Vista system, Scotty also gets bumped to the #1 spot ... wait ... isn't that as it should be? Wink

Scotty loads as the 1st or 2nd icon at bootup and then as time goes on he moves to the right and stays there.
But this was a change Bill made long ago so is nothing new unless you had a older version of WinPatrol and just now got a newer version.

Scotty starts in position 1 or 2 on the right and with subsequent standby logons he goes to position 1 on the left followed by position 2.

No big deal to me - just thought I would report it for info.

Specifically, I think Bill added this to the product because of threads like this one: CastleCops Link/t121554-Scotty_has_disappeared_from_the_taskbar.html

Was thinking it started back about version 10 that the change was made.
