I can't ask Corrine because she has moved on to Hasta la Vista,
Bill's gone for years now, I think Hewee has 98se and so I could do with a bit of help from an XP'er who also has Scotty on his/her machine ?

One of the WP buttons will front up the ActiveX list but the CLSID {8FFBE65D-2c9c-4669-84BD-5829DC0B603C} is NOT on
the list -
However going to
HKCU\Software\Bill PStudios\WinPatrol\ActiveX shows that CLSID
and I wondered if other XP'ers have that same situation and why it is not showing on the WP list ?
Could it be a bad news CLSID I wonder ? that should not be there ?

Hi, Ducain. You can always ask Corrine! Smile

I did a quick check of my XP machine at work and didn't have that CLSID listed but ran out of time to follow through on checking the Adobe Flash version.

Although this is an old thread, the CLSID appears to be for Flash -- now Adobe Flash although the links in the thread are to Macromedia.

I don't recall if you have WinPatrol PLUS. If you do, select the CLSID, Click Info, Click PLUS Info.

Hello Corrine, even though more of a Rose than by any other name.
How dreadful that Paul Newman just moved on, the list continues to get shorter.

Thanks once again for taking a look when you are probably busy -
When you referred to checking the work XP did you mean re.
Scotty's ActiveX button list ? It's not on that list, but is on the reg. addy list, is it on the work XP ?

What I was really asking Corrine is more related to why that CLSID is not showing up in the Win Patrol list of ActiveX
(when pressing the button to see the list) - but IS
clearly visible in the registry addy I gave - I thought if it was in the reg. it would be on the list ? Or might it be that the reg. addy list and
Scotty's list are from two different areas ?

Kind Regards.

Ducain,

I also moved on up after 8 years and got a new computer with XP Pro. Very Happy
But got lots to learn because it's not like 98SE.

Thanks Corrine because I did not have that listed either.

Ducain, On the WinPatrol, ActiveX tab do you have the box in the top left checked? If you check it your get a much bigger list.

Hello Hewee - ONLY because it got difficult to secure as more and more of the security Apps. dropped 98se, I was far less than happy that M$ stopped support so the blame lies with it -

Hurry up Linux, continue to improve, so that I/we can finally give M$ the big A it so richly deserves.

Yes thanks Hewee I have had the box to which you refer checked but that particular CLSID is not on the list so I am
wondering why WP does NOT have it on it's list but does have it at that WP Reg. address ?

Kind Regards.

Hi Ducain,

How you even know you know you even had the CLSID running in the first place. I know being new to XP you got the WP Service tab and that list a lot but even the Active X list a whole more on XP then on 98.

Have you gone to WinPatrol Options tab to see what Hijack Log shows?

At another site the mentioned CLSID was said to be an Adobe danger CLSID - and so I opened WP and clicked on the
'show ActiveX' button, just to see if it was on my XP, WP said NO it wasn't - Then I used Regseeker to check for the CLSID in the Reg. and it said YES it was on my machine and
surprise, surprise, that it was parked at the WP address that I gave earlier - So naturally I wondered, and still do, just why WP does not show it as being on my machine ?
In other words if it somehow manages to hide from WP then maybe it is a danger ?
That's the reason why I am trying to check - So Hewee do you have a few minutes to look in the Reg. on your XP ?

So that CLSID that WP is not show id listed in the registry under WP but not showing up in WP.
That means it did show up at one time in WP but then was deleted but it is still in the registry. I used to see old listing of things in the registry under WP that are not showing up in WP too. Like installs and other temp one time things. I think older versions of WP did this more and then back a couple version Bill had it so it checks and cleans up but still on the 98 computer I ran Regseeker all the time and it would find something in the registry under WP but it would always be something I not longer had so I let Regseeker clean it up. I have not used Regseeker on XP but tried and it acts up and I don't feel right in using it because I don't want to screw anything up because like with 98 there was over 500 things the first time I used it to clean but XP has even more. Plus I get this error but it's not in English so I don't even know what it says.

Anyhow I don't think WP is hiding anything because I bet it did show it to you at one time but it was deleted but it did not get deleted from the registry.
I have not looked much in the XP regisrty.
But checking just now under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\BillP Studios\Detected
I see on the Active Task one very long list. But also it is because they were all at one time Active and to the right it will show the date under data and if it is showing in WP it will show first detected and I think it is to just keep a record of when things are first detected. On the Active Task tab you never have it show but what is a Active Task so the rest of the info WP keeps a record of so it knows when it was first detected. No there is some in the registry that I says is old data that you really don't need. Like but new to XP I don't know all of what is what and also see that I am not seeing everything logged into a user account. But seeing installs and things like that I know it was something that was a Active Task once.
Funny looking in the registry under WP Active X it does not seem to show much but looking at WP Active X tab it show a lot. But XP shows thing in other ways then 98 in the registry so I may not be looking in the right place. OK I did find some WP Active X in the regisrty but it still shows less then the WP tab and it is only showing the Value name like {17492023-C23A-453E-A040-C7C580BBF700}
OK maybe because in the registry it is only showing the ones that are Enabled. Well anyway I got in the registry 17 listed and in the WP Active X tab that are enabled 15 listed so that's closer. Opps 16 now so it is always changing on me so guess that is a hard one to know what should be there.

So you say the CLSID {8FFBE65D-2c9c-4669-84BD-5829DC0B603C} is a an Adobe danger CLSID?
What was it from? Was it something from an Adobe that maybe was updated to patch a bug?

Hey go to Secunia Online Software Inspector at http://secunia.com/software_inspector/ and do a scan and it will tell you things that need patched or updated. I used it and it told me about old Sun Java and older versions of Flash I had.
It will point to the files to. I had to clean up the old flash on my own so not sure I got just everything or not but got the files the flash would use so took care of that. I did not have the old version in the add/remove so there was no other way to clean things. On the old Sun Java I got JavaRa 1.11 from here http://raproducts.org/ and it cleaned things up for me really easy. No install needed either and if you want to clean up after it the C: folder has a log file it made you can delete.
But you can also download the Secunia scanner but it needs to run under an Admin account but it's something good to have.
I also had installed Belarc Advisor and ran it but it listed 4 hotfixes that I did not have. I went to Windows update and did a scan but there was no updates. I go what is going on here and why is Belarc Advisor saying there is and Windows updates says there is not a update. Well I clicked the link by the hotfix in Belarc Advisor and then clicking around at MS I got to Microsoft Update page. I had to download Microsoft Update so I did and I ran a scan and there was my 4 updates that Belarc Advisor said I was missing so I got them.

Hey the 8FFBE65D-2c9c-4669-84BD-5829DC0B603C is the flash player too so maybe you have the old flash like I did. Wonder if I had it listed in the WP registry like you did before I cleaned it up? If I did then WP cleaned it from the registry because I did not and 8FFBE65D-2c9c-4669-84BD-5829DC0B603C is not there.
See this thread.
