I have moved your thread to the HiJackThis forum. Only experts in the HJT forum can read your HJT log. Please read the Hijackthis Guidelines Read Before Posting

The HJT forum is very busy ... please be patient ... while waiting, follow the MRP to clean your system.

If you complete the MRP before one of the 1st Responders or Security Experts assists you, please post an after MRP HJT log in this same thread.

Hi,

My name is PCBruiser (or PCB for short), and I will be helping you to remove the malware on your system. The file MSA64CHK.dll is a malware dialer, but does nothing unless you connect using a dial up modem. Having said that, there is other malware on your system as well.

Please copy and print out these instructions using Notepad so they will be readily available to you. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, please ask your question(s) before doing anything further.

Step 1: You are running hijackthis from a desktop folder. That may cause you to lose any backups it will make. So before we go any farther let's get it into its own folder. Create a new folder c:\HJT. Then move hijackthis.exe from the desktop to c:\HJT. Next rename hijackthis.exe to xyz.exe or any random name.

Step 2: Please click on Start, then on Run and copy and paste the following into the Run box:

regsvr32 /u MSA64CHK.dll

then tap <Enter>. Reboot. Then navigate to the folder C:\WINDOWS\System32\ and delete the file MSA64CHK.dll if it can be found.

Step 3: Run HijackThis again, but this time choose Do a system scan only, that is the second option from the top in the HijackThis What would you like to do choices. After HijackThis completes the system scan, check the box immediately to the left of the following item(s):

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {15651C7C-E812-44a2-A9AC-B467A2233E7D} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [mp3collection] rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\MSA64CHK.dll,DllMostrar Matrix_HTML:mp3collection:t
O9 - Extra button: MP3Collection - {76DD9E77-F06C-4471-AB6C-CF03C5C6B5B0} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\MP3Collection (file missing)
O16 - DPF: {15651C7C-E812-44A2-A9AC-B467A2233E7D} - http://launcheruk.escritorioactivo.com/GIDCAI32.cab
O16 - DPF: {2A493D5F-8914-4D3E-8BF3-767F281862F4} (TraderMediaImgX Control) - http://sell.autotrader.co.uk/uk-ola/common/TraderMediaX.cab
O16 - DPF: {88C51E90-8E9C-4C96-8A45-574D88B63FAF} - http://acceso.masminutos.com/laaplicacion.cab
O16 - DPF: {9C5B2F29-1F46-4639-A6B4-828942301D3E} - http://launcheruk.escritorioactivo.com/SIPSPI32.cab

Please be very careful, do NOT check any other boxes.

Next, click on Fix checked on the bottom left side of the HijackThis screen.

Next, reboot.

Step 4: Download and scan with CCleaner
1. Starting with v1.27.260, CCleaner installs the Yahoo Toolbar as an option which IS checkmarked by default during the installation. IF you do NOT want it, REMOVE the checkmark when provided with the option OR download the toolbar-free Basic or Slim versions instead of the Standard Build.

2. Before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"

3. Then select the items you wish to clean up.

In the Windows Tab:
• Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section.
• Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
• Clean all entries in the "System" section.
• Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.
• Clean any others that you choose.

In the Applications Tab:
• Clean all in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
• Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
• Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
• Clean any others that you choose.

4. Click the "Run Cleaner" button.
5. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
6. Click "OK" and it will scan and clean your system.
7. Click "exit" when done.

Step 5: Download and scan in Safe Mode with SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users

  • Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
  • An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
  • If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here.)
  • Close SUPERAntiSpyware
  • Reboot your system into Safe Mode and open SUPERAntiSpyware again.
  • Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
  • Click the Scanning Control tab.
  • Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
    • Close browsers before scanning.
    • Scan for tracking cookies.
    • Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
  • Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.
  • Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
  • On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
  • On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
  • Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
  • After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
  • Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
  • A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
  • If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
  • Reboot into normal Windows.
  • To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
    • Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
    • Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
    • If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
    • Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
  • Click Close to exit the program.

Step 6: Please perform a scan with Panda ActiveScan - ActiveScan does not remove adware/spyware but will autoclean for viruses & worms. You will need to use Internet Explorer to do this correctly.
1. Click "Scan Your PC".
2. A new window will open. Click "Check Now!".
3. Fill in your registration and click "Scan Now!".
4. You may receive an alert on the address bar that "This site might require the following ActiveX control...Click here to install...". Click on that alert and then Click Insall ActiveX component.
5. A new window will appear asking "Do you want to install this software?"" Name: asinst.cab.
6. Select "Install" to download the ActiveX controls that allows ActiveScan to run.
7. If running MSAS beta you may receive an alert that an IE ActiveX program requires your approval. Click "Allow".
8. Select a device to scan: Click on "Local Disks" [allow it to Auto Clean].
9. When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the "See Report button", then "Save Report" to your desktop.
10. Post back the results of your scan and any infected files that are found but not deleted.

Step 7: Please post the following:

a. the SUPERAntiSpyware report
b. the Panda scan report
c. a new HJT log

For some strange reason, i can not open the link to run the panda scan online. I have tried through another pc and it worked fine, just not on the machine with the problem.

Any ideas?

OK, skip that for the moment. Post the SAS log and a fresh HJT log.

Hi mate,

I have been trying to get the panda scan to work since my last post...
Unfortunately it says the download time is 15960 seconds. It seems to be working on a friends pc relatively fast. Logs below :-

Hi,

SAS really didn't find anything of importance - one left over registry entry and a cookie. Let's do an alternative scan, but I have a feeling (which doesn't mean much) that the one item of malware we deleted may have been the only thing of importance on your system.

Download Sysclean Package & save it to your desktop.

  • Create a new folder on drive "C:\" and rename it Sysclean - (C:\Sysclean).
  • Place the sysclean.com inside that folder.
  • Then download the latest Virus Pattern Files - (Pattern files are usually named lptxxx.zip, where xxx is the pattern file number)
  • Extract (unzip) the lptxxx.zip pattern file into the Sysclean folder where you put sysclean.com. (Click here for information on how to extract a file if your not sure how to do this. DO NOT scan yet.
Reboot your computer in SAFE MODE" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Note: Some anti-virus programs such as Avast will alert you to a virus attack when running sysclean so it's best to disable them before going to the next step.

Scan with Sysclean as follows:
  • Open the Sysclean folder and double-click on sysclean.com to start the scanning process.
  • Put a check mark on the "Automatically clean or delete infected files" option by clicking in the checkbox.
  • Click the Advanced >> button.
  • The scan options appear. Select the "Scan all local fixed drives".
  • Click the "Scan button" on the Trend Micro System Cleaner console.
  • It will take some time to complete. Be patient and let it clean whatever it finds.
  • Another MS-DOS window appears containing the log file generated in the System Cleaner folder.
  • To view the log, click the "View button" on the Trend Micro System Cleaner console. The Trend Micro Sysclean Package - Log window appears.
    • The Files Detected section shows the viruses that were detected by System Cleaner.
    • The Files Clean section shows the viruses that were cleaned.
    • The Clean Fail section shows the viruses that were not cleaned.
  • Exit when done, reboot normally and re-enable your anti-virus program.
Instructions with screenshots are here if you need them.

[i]This tool generates a log file (sysclean.log) in the same folder where the scan is completed. When using Sysclean its best to use the Administrator's account or an account with Administrative rights otherwise you will not have the rights to scan some locations. The scanning process may result in "Access Denied" messages for some files. This is normal because these files are protected by the system.

Please post the TM scan log and a fresh HJT log.
