Hi all,

I am in this BITS sort of 'nightmare' without been able to track down the problem.

I have followed all the steps suggested and at least now windowsupdate seems to work but everytime I try to run BITS I always receive the same error message:

"The Background Intelligent Transfer Service service terminated with service-specific error 2147942402 (0x80070002)."

Anything else I could try? There is there any place where I could download all files needed by BITS? The ones posted in MS KB are 'old'.

Thank you,
Fax

hey fax, i have just solved my BITS issue a couple of minutes ago. What I did was uninstalled SP2, after doing so, I uninstalled KB842773 which is the update for BITS 2.0 and winHTTP 5.1. I then proceeded to reinstall SP2 and the KB842773 update and voila~ windows update worked~! and so did starting the BITS service manually! I highly recommend you try this.
Let me know what you think.

Four days after Graduation from High School in June, 1965, I was in boot camp. Never did register for the draft. Later became a "retread". Served in the Air Force and the U.S. Marine Corps -- HOOOOOOOAH.

Tried fix and did not work on my system. Had Windows XP Home and all worked fine. Did upgrade to XP Pro and now, even after following your post step by step, still no updates. Same error message.

Any ideas? Why Me?

That's exactly when I graduated too, but I bummed around in college
and worked for a while before I enlisted.

sorry, forgot: I have Toshiba Satalite A75, S211 which came with XP Home installed. I had no problem with update until I installed upgrade to XP Pro. Have 2 PC's which I upgraded to XP Pro and they never had this problem. Even after installing the SP 2 patch from winupdate site.

Jim,

I've been working all night and I have to go to a Memorial Day Weekend function
soon and I'm REALLY beat, so I can only help you a little bit for right now.

First of all, when I clicked on the link you gave, it read:

Quote:
HTTP Error 500 - Internal Server Error.
[Error number: 0x8DDD0010]

There is a problem with the page you are looking for, and it cannot be
displayed.

Please try the following:

Contact the Web site administrator and inform them that this error has
occured for this Web page address.

Read more about steps you can take to resolve this problem yourself.

so that was no help (obviously).

See the option which says:
Quote:
Microsoft Online Assisted Support (no-cost for Windows Update issues)

Since you HAVE a Windows Update problem (God, how I hate that idiotic
euphemism, issues - they're NOT issues, they're problems -
more touchy-feely, Orwellian PC Newspeak) - you CAN write them and they
WILL write you back. As I mentioned in my initial post, I researched
everything and couldn't come up with a (complete) answer, so I wrote them
and it took about two weeks of back and forth e-mails, but since I'm
a programmer, we worked together pretty well until we found the problem
(you saw all the steps - that's how obscure it was).

Each PC's setup is almost unique, but since I'm in a hurry, read these links
for now:

0x8007043b Windows Update Error
Published By Marc Liron - Microsoft MVP
http://www.configurarequipos.com/tema33765-8-5.html

or this:
http://www.msusenet.com/archive/index.php/t-2459009.html

or this:
http://www.windowsbbs.com/printthread.php?t=34624

or this:
http://www.short-media.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32354
(on the bottom)

or this:
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v5consumer/showarticle.aspx?articleid=19&ln=en

There are a LOT more, but I really gotta go for now.

If you do ANYTHING with your Registry, MAKE SURE you back it up FIRST!!

Have a good Memorial Day w/e - I've got so many parades I'm in and
functions and reunions to go to, that I don't know if I'll be back or not
before Mon. night. Let me know what you find out anyway and I'll get
back to you as soon as I'm able. In the meantime, someone else from
this site might also answer you over the w/e.

Remember - you CAN write to a tech at Microsoft Online Assisted Support -
and it's FREE (normally, it's not) and they WILL write you back.

Go easy,

Mike________
