Hi guys, but my Operational System doesn't have the start menu: it's like a "K" letter. How can I stop the indexing service at Solaris 8 so?
Thnx!!

I have the same problem, but I'm not smart enough to know if my computer is set up to use indexing. How can I tell? Thanks in advance.

On my Win XP system I found it via Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. The 'Standard' tab is at the bottom. Otherwise, follow Rob's very useful instructions above. Thanks very much, Rob! There's a nasty group out there called 2-spyware.com that tells you that it's a worm and offers you a free download to get rid of it, then you end up paying for the "real" program, then it plants its own spyware, yadda yadda. Watch out for their program spyhunterS.exe. Do not use it.

Thanks maan!
I had the same problem with my Win 2003 system. The cisvc process would suddenly wake up n consume all memory, freezing my computer for a while (and making my HDD sound like its taking off). Anyway googled for this and found this thread and its really helped.
Regards,
