I applied the hotfix and was invulnerable per the checker but Windows Media Player 10 gives an error on all movie files and won't play. Reinstalling the player did nothing and uninstalling the hotfix did not repair the player. Tried reregistering the shimgvw.dll file even though it was never unregistered with no result.
The MS patch was run and the checker says invulnerable but that did not fix it either. There seems to be a problem now also running avi files in Quick Time.
Hi Paul. I am running WinXP Pro SP2. Yes, I did uninstall the hotfix after reinstalling Media Player 10 twice without success, still no go. I subsequently reregisrered the shimgvw.dll file even though I had not unregistered it thinking the hotfix may have unreg'd it. No change. I then installed the MS patch and somewhere in there QuickTime stopped playing .avi files also. The hotfix checker says invulnerable after the MS patch.
MP 10 gives an error on all files including music files: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." Going to "more info" gives Error ID = 0xC00D1199, Condition ID = 0x00000000 for which the MS web help site says "You've encountered error message C00D1199 while using Windows Media Player. We are investigating the cause of this error. We will post more information about this error when it becomes available." Very helpful....
Things worked fine previous to the hotfix. I am at a loss. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
