After upgrading WinPatrol PLUS to v 15.0.2008.0:15.0.2008.0, every time I open the program I get a popup alerting me that WinPatrol Monitor has been detected as a new auto Startup Program:
C:\Program Files\BillP Studios\WinPatrol\winpatrol.exe -expressboot

I always answer [No], as I don't want it to load at Startup- and indeed it doesn't. In the Startup Programs list, it is listed as "Disabled". Yet under the Options tab, I see that the option to "Automatically run WinPatrol when computer starts" remains checked (even after I uncheck it, the next time I open the program it is checked again).

In my XP/sp2 Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs list, I see:
- WinPatrol 2007 Restore/Remove First
- WinPatrol 2008

I am able to remove WinPatrol 2007 from that list, but it reappears the next time I open the list.

So how do I stop WinPatrol from detecting itself as a new auto Startup whenever I manually start the program?

Hi, gaslad.

If I understand what you are saying, this was addressed in WinPatrol 2007, V14:

Quote:
Multiple copies of WinPatrol in startup
Occasionally, users have written to let us know they have multiple copies of Scotty in the list of Startup programs. This version can correct any errors by checking the "Automatically run WinPatrol" box under the Options tab.

However, you do need WinPatrol in startup for it to do the intended job. After all, monitoring startup programs is one of the primary functions of WinPatrol.

If you are still having problems, make a note of your WinPatrol Plus code. Then make sure you exit from WinPatrol, uninstall the software and delete the folder. Then reinstall WinPatrol.

Let us know how you make out.

Thanks Corrine:

I uninstalled/reinstalled WP as per your instructions, then went immediately to the Options tab and unchecked the "Automatically run WinPatrol when computer starts". This seems to have solved my problem. When I open the program I no longer get alerts.

With respect, I appreciate the value of having WP monitoring startup when Windows loads. I choose not to use this, rightly or wrongly. I have enough loading with Windows as it is, and this PC has been malware-free since I got it 3 years ago. Using WP on-demand seems adequate.

I am intrigued, however, that I still cannot delete that "WinPatrol 2007 Restore/Remove First" entry in my Control panel>Add or Remove Programs list.

Of course it is your choice, but do consider, gaslad, that you can use WinPatrol to delay the start of some of those programs loading with Windows. Again, your choice, but WinPatrol isn't what I would classify as an "on demand" software.

It is strange about not being able to remove that entry. You could contact support @ winpatrol.com and explain your problem, even including a link to this thread.

I would keep WinPatrol running at startup. Lots of things can get added to startup and or the next boot up and your want to have WinPatrol warn you.
The winpatrol.exe -expressboot you want to run.

From WinPatrol Plus Info.

WinPatrol System Monitor
winpatrol.exe

Startup Location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Company: BillP Studios
Copyright: Copyright © 1997- 2008 BillP Studios
Version: 15.0.2008.0
Path: C:\PROGRAM FILES\BILLP STUDIOS\WINPATROL\winpatrol.exe -expressboot

WinPatrol.exe - WinPatrol Plus

This is the program you're hopefully using to access this web database
Developed by BillP Studios this program helps keep your computer safe and assists you in knowing what programs on your computer are doing.
We thank you for your support.

What, only "Very Safe"? At minimum it should indicate "Exceptionally Safe". Laughing
